Located in Rietkuil Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. Under the institution of Exxaro Resources, the Arnot coal mine was transferred to Arnot Opco in 2019.
In an unprecedented show of workers empowerment, 1200 retrenched employees now hold a stake in the Arnot colliery, and are emancipated with the drive to steer the mine towards the future of holistic sustainability in a novel way. 2015 sparked the decommission of mining activities, under the previous ownership of Exxaro, this initiated the commencement of the rehabilitation of previously distributed areas. The rehabilitation programme is still ongoing, with underground mining sections being re-equipped and said to commence in the short term. The status quo to date retains the current reserves which include open pits set to be mined in the near future. Website: arnotopco.com

Orion Minerals, dual-listed on the Australian and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges (ASX: ORN, JSE: ORN), is a globally diversified resource company set to become a new generation base metals producer through the development of its Prieska Copper-Zinc Project in South Africa’s Northern Cape Province.
Since acquiring Prieska in 2015, Orion has rapidly made this brownfields project one of the few fully permitted, bankable and development-ready base metal assets worldwide.
Underpinned by a globally significant JORC compliant VMS Resource of 30.49Mt @ 1.2% Cu and 3.7% Zn, Prieska is forecast to produce ~22ktpa of copper and ~70ktpa of zinc over an initial 12-year life, generating A$1.6 billion in pre-tax free cash flow and a pre-tax NPV8% of A$779 million.
An emerging producer of the “future-facing” commodities required for global mega-trends such as decarbonisation and electrification, Orion has set new standards with its approach to ESG, community and stakeholder engagement, permitting and technology adoption, and is playing a leadership role in the resurgence of junior mining in South Africa.
Orion is working to complete project financing for Prieska, targeting production start-up in 2024. Website: orionminerals.com.au
