The third edition of the Junior Indaba, for explorers, developers and investors in junior mining in Africa, took place on 7 & 8 June 2017.

We welcomed many CEOs, entrepreneurs, investors and mining professionals who all contributed to making it a spectacular experience, both with the engaging discussions and the informal networking.

Some of the highlights included Lessons from the Legends, which had the audience fascinated by their life and career experiences, words of wisdom and many industry insights.  Serial mining entrepreneur, John Teeling set the room alight with his quick wit and unmatched Irish humour as well as his unconquerable optimism for what is clearly a life-long passion for exploration.  The message he left us with was a very clear one – no time for pessimism, let’s get on with the business.

Amongst all the good cheer and engaging discussions was a more serious note about South Africa’s future plagued with ambiguity and uncertainty.  Dr Mathews Phosa’s address was a highlight spelling out his vision for the future of the ANC and South Africa. Roger Baxter joined in the constructive engagement with his vision and proactive initiatives of South Africa’s Chamber of Mines.

For the first time this year we welcomed CRU (UK) who set the tone for an interesting discussion about commodity markets and the impact of price movements on juniors.  An interesting array of company projects made for a fascinating day, with Peter Major holding nothing back with his scrutiny and incisive commentary.

Bernard Swanepoel lived up to his reputation as the best Chair in the business and did not disappoint with his open, honest, blunt conversation interspersed with great humour. As we have come to expect from him, he was instrumental in setting the mood which was jovial, engaging and constructive.
